wd39 *you get by* is the second outing from rabo & snob, the tel-aviv based duo who previously surprised and delighted on whiskey disco #32, 3 chart-topping songs that brought this duo into the disco limelight. the fundamental goal of modern disco is to ride the groove and make folks move. r&s have an uncanny ability to distill music to this point by weaving new textures over old and creating instant classics. you get by, believe and together carry this torch with subtle nods to our inner disco hippy, signaling themes of peace, love and boogie. the title song has been re-touched by love dance. ld have tweaked the original vocals for a headier combination, aimed at the dawn patrol.

this is the fourth release on the 6-volume surgeon reissues label, srx. originally released on ideal trax in 1995, dynamic tension ep established themes that went on to become central concepts to much of surgeons later work. it also marked a refinement of his sound that lacked none of the intensity of earlier releases.

2000 and one has now composed 3 themes inspired by this polar shift phenomena: shift 1 and 2 in a dirty and raw chicago/ detroit fashion, shift 3 comprising electro boogie beats pushed to the max and a bonus track called fused , which also appeared on the 10 years intacto records compilation.

at the tail end of the 90s, gregory darsa played around with a number of pseudonyms before finally settling on his now familiar dj gregory alias. one of those abandoned aliases was headcore. it was used for a single ep back in 1998, released on chateau flight s label, versatile (then in it s infancy). here, that ep gets a welcome reissue. it s aged rather well, with all four tracks - explorations of deep house themes with occasional nods to the dubby, african-influenced style darsa would later explore on the africanism project - sounding as fresh now as they did 16 years ago. picking highlights is tricky, but we re particularly enjoyed the sparse, swinging dub-house of -cage- (accompanied with a tasty drum dub) and the chez damier-influenced chug of -in & out

the index expands into its fourth chapter with a rich collection of tracks from key label artists marcel fengler, thomas hessler, echoplex and vril. label co-ordinator marcel fengler drops scion on the a1, a non-typical, deeper house-influenced jam with a floating, mind-melting soft-focus. abstract, crafty techno meets classic sunday-afternoon vibes in this unique offering. after his wonderful 4-tracker on imf003 promising talent thomas hessler continues his run with the melodic and stark journey track, the escaper. what is initially shrouded in mystery and melancholy opens up into a funky, us vs. uk-styled workout, snapping snares and reduced percussion driving the meandering synth theme. echoplex, who graced imf002, also returns with a suitably trippy and percussive number, entitled the relapse. building into a bleepy, freaky, acidic killer, complete with some cleverly deployed rave vocal samples, filtering in and out of the fluffy aesthetic, the long-serving polish master is still on top form. going for impact and stand-out sound design, vril offers thronwagen, a mesmerising arrangement of synth layers, classic techno stabs and overlapping themes. already well-known for his powerful drums and bottom end control, this more musical piece goes a long way to showcase some of the german producers many other talents.

there is something singularly unique and peculiar in the degree to which seemingly unsettling themes and extreme taboos have been explored, most notably in the medium of film, in the land of nippon.

>sleduyushly< or who is next on sol asylum is anton zap. we are pleased to be closing out 2014 with the delightfully well-crafted deep house that resonates within anton. we start with talking a simplistic yet deep and ever-evolving atmosphere with peculiar echoes and noises that speak to us through constantly moving metallic percussion. next rublewood with its trotting wooden clicks and oscillating claps we morph through the track until the euphoric themes expand bringing us to the next level. in my lesson, anton channels a 90s ambience with a definite feel for funk. arpeggiated synths with just a hint of acid mixed with harmonic pads and unconventional horn riffs bring this eccentric soundtrack together. finally her lesson brings us to more experimental territory with a futuristic outer galactic journey through space and time where a metronomic kick, walking bassline and gleaming pads transport us to another dimension.

t c f is the moniker of norwegian contemporary artist and experimental computer musician lars holdhus. his work explores themes of code, cryptography and privacy through the use of visual, sonic, built and written concepts. often the titles and descriptions of his work are written in cyphertext, the key to which is hidden within the piece itself. his forthcoming release on liberation technologies will further this cryptographic theme, consisting of digital and physical content containing the necessary keys to unlock the full meaning of the work.

chris mcwaynes productions tie in his hip hop & jazz themes then pushed to the outer realms much like his friend afrikan sciences. includes the title track, and the gorgeous winding islands of dust. afrikan sciences chimes in with a remix for islands of dust.

berliners dirk leyers and nomad expressed their hard earned musical freedom in a dogma: the use of a roland tr-808 analog drum machine in every single track. they programmed the machine to lay poly-rhythms over multicultural drum and percussion tracks, fascinated -and sometimes puzzled- by its own characteristically sudden swing and accent changes, and named it: africaine 808 - their third and first female band member. in the first year of their musical joint venture, the three spent quite some time in remixing and editing some of their favourite african and island funk tunes, transforming the old gold into modern dj and dancefloor friendly tunes. the sound of organic grooves mixed with 808-beats and analogue synthesizer basslines became soon a trademark sound, and more and more samples got replaced by live played guitar, bass, organ and percussion. the trio experimented with different tempos and styles ranging from slow cumbia and exotic rumba themes to island-funk and percussive disco, electro and house. in spring 2012 they first took the project to another level, turning their tracks into a full live act at one of the vulkandance nights in berlin. today the project is growing and integrating guest musicians, drummers, percussionists and vocalists - for live performances as well as for recording in the studio. 100% sonic voodoo golf channel every time!

federico leocatas latest experiment on abstract forms is stunning. drawing inspiration from the experimental style and themes of recurrence in nietzsches thus spoke zarathustra (1883-1885), leocatas ep is hypnotic and seductive. the ep harks to the work of the legendary gerald donald in guises such as heinrich mueller, der zyklus and japanese telecom - awesome and unmistakably futuristic sounds with natural funk and a sense of wonder and enlightenment.

for its ninth release popcorn is proud to present the second ep of the man from koeln that we do not introduce anymore: daso. this artist who became a real friend and mainly one of the head artist of the label is one of the talented producer in the recent electronic music circus. immer, the main track of this release, gathers a collection of generous and deep sounds sprinkled with hypnotics’ synths: no mistake. the italian nico lahs (ovum, poker flat…) gives us a brilliant own interpretation playing with the bass through acid touches. definitely underground. schub the second original of this opus confirms dasos potential to produce deep house. strong original themes, romantic piano, voices and rollands drums are a sweet taste of springs. chordster is the last original but not the least. the lead piano drives the acid snare all along the track. the result is more than effective and brings your mind right into dasos universe, forever.

steve bug returns with a brilliant set of killer reworks from his much-lauded noir album. no adjustments features the vocal talents of foremost poets, and remains one of the standout moments on the label boss enigmatic long player. where noir explored the themes of light and shade, it was always clear that no adjustments was one of the more straight up dance floor moments on there, and as such this release is definitely going to be thankfully received by djs.
